In this post we will learn how to configure ssh ( secure shell ) on cisco switch with ipv6 .
MultiLayer Switch (MLS) is a network device by Cisco that provides Layer 3 (L3) switching in conjunction with existing routers. It has the ability to operate at higher layers of the OSI reference model, unlike the Data Link Layer (DLL) which are traditionally used by switches.
SO in the the diagram you can see multilayer switch have been used . To ssh we need a ip and in ipv6 we can’t give ip to one of its port and access that switch . As you know network work on vlan 1 which is default . SO with the help of vlan we will configure ssh on cisco switch .
Mulitilayer switch configuration
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
deepit(config)#ip domain name deepitp5.com
deepit(config)#crypto key gen rsa
The name for the keys will be: deepit.deepitp5.com
Choose the size of the key modulus in the range of 360 to 2048 for your
General Purpose Keys. Choosing a key modulus greater than 512 may take
a few minutes.
How many bits in the modulus : 1024
( 1024 IS BIT OF ENCRYPTION WHICH WE WANT )
% Generating 1024 bit RSA keys, keys will be non-exportable…[OK]
deepit(config)#username deepit password 123
( GIVE USERNAME AND PASSWORD TO LOGIN SSH
HERE DEEPIT IS MY USERNAME AND 123 IS MY PASSWORD )
*Mar 1 0:4:25.866: %SSH-5-ENABLED: SSH 1.99 has been enabled
deepit(config)#line vty 0 5
deepit(config-line)#int vlan 1
(NOW GIVE IPV6 TYPE OF IP TO INT VLAN 1)
deepit(config-if)#ipv6 add 2001:ABAB::1/64
%LINK-5-CHANGED: Interface Vlan1, changed state to up
%LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface Vlan1, changed state to up
CLICK ON LAPTOP DESKTOP>IP CONFIGURATION
Give ip to your system .
- Now go to its command prompt .
- And type ssh -l username ipaddress
- Like in this , ssh -l deepit 2001:ABAB::1
GIVE CORRECT PASSWORD AND ACCESS THE SWITCH THROUGH SSH .
